The Saint Series

Saint Agnes, 2001

Saint Dorothea, 2001

Saint Agatha, 2001

After a visit to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the influence of Mucha became more
prevalent in my work. I started designing elaborate framing elements to be included in the
composition and practicing an Art Noveau style caligraphy.  The more elaborate compositions
were a challenge but the results were worth the effort I put forth.  I started included gold leaf
in my work and the symbolism of colors and shapes from historic religious paintings altered
my work greatly.  Saint Agatha is oil on canvas stretched over wooden panel, measuring 16
inches by 32 inches.  Magdalene is oil on canvas and measures 30 inches by 36 inches.

Magdalene, 2001

In this series of paintings I
combined my love of the
human figure with my
fascination with the history of
religion.  I wanted to portray
historic saints from the
Catholic religion in an
unusual, contemporary way.
Saint Agnes was the first of
the series, and is oil on
canvas stretched over
wooden panel.  The painting
as well as Saint Dorothea,
it's pendant piece measure
24 inches by 48 inches.
